Septic System Evaluations

SEPTIC SYSTEM EVALUATIONS

Septic System Evaluation Includes:

  • A general look through the home for items that can have an effect on the system’s health and longevity (such as garbage disposals, jetted tubs, and water treatment systems.)
  • A visual observation of the interior plumbing (when possible) to determine if the “grey” and “black” waste water are directed into the septic system.
  • Opening of the septic tank(s) to perform an inspection of the inlet and outlet baffles as well as the general condition of the tank and a sludge measurement.
  • Measurements of the tank to determine its size.
  • Verification of proper operation of any floats and alarm provided the system includes a pump station.
  • Identification of the type of Effluent Disposal Area (EDA)
  • Opening of the distribution box (D Box) to inspect the component integrity and verify even flow out of the lines.
  • A minimum of one excavation in the EDA to determine the systems overall condition.
  • Water well set back measurements when the well head location can be verified.
  • Using a sewer camera to aide in locating system components and inspecting pipes.

Septic System Evaluation Also Includes:

  • The on-site evaluation is followed up with a written report.
  • Beyond performing the evaluation of the system I feel it is important to also educate my clients about basic system maintenance and some of the things that can be done, both inside and outside of the home to promote system longevity.
  • All grading criteria and evaluation methodology used to perform the evaluation are from the Granite State Onsite Wastewater Association’s (GSOWA) Septic Evaluator Program. I am a member of GSOWA and a Granite State Septic System Certified Evaluator (#151.)
